The much anticipated Republican National Convention is right around the corner. I don’t expect there to be any sort of delegate drama, but I’m sure Donald Trump will find a way to spice things up. He already toyed with the idea of inviting multiple high profile sports legends to come and speak for an all around “winner’s night.” Not so sure if that’s actually going to happen, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Tom Brady speaking at the convention. For purely historical reasons, of course. *smirks*
However, Trump is NOT inviting anyone to speak who hasn’t yet endorsed him. That goes for all Republicans, including John Kasich and Ted Cruz. Republican organizers are worried, because tensions are already high as it is, and they don’t want the convention to turn into some sort of side show.
They are employing hard-nosed tactics, warning delegates that attempting to undermine Donald J. Trump’s claim to the nomination violates party rules, and threatening to deny speaking slots to Republicans they deem disloyal for not backing him.
“If there’s no endorsement, then I would not invite them to speak,” Mr. Trump said in an interview, adding that former rivals like Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio should not expect to address the convention if they continue to withhold their support….read more here
