1596 Margaret Stanley, Countess of Derby (née Clifford) (1540 – 28 September 1596) was the only surviving daughter of Henry Clifford, 2nd Earl of Cumberland and Lady Eleanor Brandon. Her maternal grandparents were Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk and Mary Tudor, former queen consort of France. Mary was the third daughter of King Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York.

1781 Early on September 28, Major General George Washington led the army out of Williamsburg Virginia to surround Yorktown, Siege of Yorktown, Battle of Yorktown, or Surrender of Yorktown. The French took the positions on the left while the Americans took the position of honor on the right. British General Cornwallis had a chain of seven redoubts and batteries linked by earthworks along with batteries that covered the narrows of the York River at Gloucester Point. That day, Washington reconnoitered the British defenses and decided that they could be bombarded into submission. The Americans and the French spent the night of the 28th sleeping out in the open, while work parties built bridges over the marsh. Some of the American soldiers hunted down wild hogs to eat.

1923 – John Scott, born, 9th Duke of Buccleuch, British politician Walter Francis John Montagu Douglas Scott, 9th Duke of Buccleuch and 11th Duke of Queensberry, KT Knight Order of the Thistle, VRD, Volunteer Reserve Decoration, JP, Justice of the Peace, DL Deputy Lieutenant, (28 September 1923 – 4 September 2007) was a Scottish Peer, politician and landowner. He served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in the Second World War, and represented Edinburgh North in the House of Commons for 13 years. His paternal Aunt was Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. His sister Elizabeth, married the 10th Duke of Northumberland, and Caroline wed politician Ian Gilmour. Known as Johnny Dalkeith, from his courtesy title of Earl of Dalkeith, he was educated at Eton. Chief of Clan Scott. (1973-2007)

1935 – William Kennedy Dickson, died, Scottish inventor (b. 1860). Scot inventor who devised an early motion picture camera under the employment of Thomas Edison. His father was James Waite Dickson, a Scottish artist, astronomer and linguist. James claimed direct lineage from the painter Hogarth, and from Judge John Waite, the man who sentenced King Charles I to death. A gifted musician, his mother, Elizabeth Kennedy-Laurie Dickson, was related to the Lauries of Maxwellton (immortalised in the ballad Annie Laurie) and connected with the Duke of Atholl and the Royal Stuarts. Dickson invented the first practical celluloid film for this application and decided on 35 mm for the size, a standard still used.

Digital Surface Models created by the LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) system provide very accurate 3-dimensional positioning of the building structures and the surrounding area. The 3-D models, in this case, have helped to locate original support structures, stairwells, elevator shafts, basements, and other features.

Location filming included Tigh Beg Croft, near Oban, Scotland.
