September 26 1290 7-year old heiress to the Scots’ throne, Margaret, called the “Maid of Norway”, died, travelling towards her kingdom, on the Orkney Islands around 26 September 1290. With Margaret’s death, the main royal line came to an end and thirteen claimants asserted their rights to the Scottish Throne. When King Alexander III of Scotland (1241–1286) died age 45, Alexander’s three-year old granddaughter Margaret, who lived in Norway, was recognised as his successor.   Maid of Norway (age 7).

1453 – sometime in September- Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford, called “Tiger Earl” or “Earl Beardie.” Died. He married Elizabeth Dunbar, of the house of March (Earl of March).

1523 – sometime in September-   Lord Dacre was despatched to attack the castle of Fairniehirst, (Alternative Names Ferniherst; Ferniehirst; Firnihirst; Ferniehurst House) [In 1523 it was thrown down (Information from Letters and Papers of Henry VIII, iii, pt.2, no. 3364), within about three miles of Jedburgh, the feudal fortress of Sir Andrew Ker, a border chief, [tg25-387]

1687 – The city council of Amsterdam votes to support William of Orange’s invasion of England, which became the Glorious Revolution.

1674 sometime in. Failed harvest, severe famine, 5-15 percent starved to death. This single year Dearth was repeated in the seven ill years, a period of national famine in Scotland in the 1690s, by four years of failed harvests (1695, 1696 and 1698–99). The period is named after the Biblical famine in Egypt predicted by Joseph ben Jacob in the Book of Genesis.

1781 On September 26. Tidewater Virginia. Transports with artillery, siege tools, and some French infantry and shock troops from the Head of Elk, the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay arrived, giving Washington command of an army of 7,800 Frenchmen, 3,100 militia, and 8,000 Continentals.[

1856 Arrived Salt Lake City Utah Territory, are 214 Emigrants from Ships, Enoch Train and S. Curling, which sailed from England, through Boston. 7 died en route. Daniel D. McArthur captain. Wikipedia.

1945 sometime in. Dead of Night film released. Promoted as scary. Has a scene on a golf course close to, if not in, Saint Andrews golf course.

2003 Young Adam filmed on a barge that operates along the River Clyde between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
