PBS Shows Fireworks From 2015, It Was Better Than Showing It Live
Eric Lieberman on July 5, 2016 at The Daily Caller News Foundation
The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) televised a tremendous Fourth of July fireworks show taking place over the national monuments in Washington D.C. The only problem is that they were not live, as advertised; they were from 2015.
The non-profit media company was peppered with criticism on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook due to the chicanery. The night of July 4, 2016, in Washington, D.C., was muggy, dreary and included on-and-off periods of rain. To many viewers, the ruse was obvious since the telecasted fireworks show displayed clear, non-foggy weather.
PBS explained that showing an amalgamation of last year and this year’s fireworks shows would be more aesthetically pleasing than just broadcasting the hazy view of fireworks from 2016.

We showed a combination of the best fireworks from this year and previous years. It was the patriotic thing to do. #July4thPBS

@July4thPBS Only in DC could a PBS show become a scandal #July4thPBS #capitolfourth

Others were not as upset, and believe that it was better this way compared to an obscured, obstructed view of the pyrotechnic show.
Yep. If they’d aired nothing but glowing clouds, complaints. Good job on solid backup plan 4 viewers. #July4thPBS https://t.co/YO92LhRzd1

Some people were observant enough to notice more differences than merely the weather.
Not only did they clear the clouds out of the sky, #july4thPBS cleared the scaffolding off of the Capitol. #magic
