1520 Charters (Charter Chest of the Earldom of Dundonald).   Charter dated 8th May 1520 charter to John Cochran (d. 1557) is the son of John Cochran (d. 1537).  John was granted the lands of Western Cochrane in this charter.  John and Marion had William who is mentioned in the charters also along with a Hector Stewart. John Cochrane married Marion Stewart (she had a brother Hector). The Barony of Cochrane was at Kilwinning, North Ayrshire.

1840 Paisley and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Samuel Mulliner (b. 1809), and Alexander Wright (b. 1804), Scots, arrive as missionaries. [Ensign Feb. 1987]. Apostle Elder Orson Pratt arrived in Paisley to supervise the work, Alexander and Samuel had baptized eighty such converts, nineteen of them in one day. These converts would form the nuclei of branches in Bridge-of-Weir, Bishopton, Greenock, and Paisley, towns encircling Glasgow. 1847 Archibald Philip Primrose, born, (Prime Minister), 5th Earl of Rosebery, born 7 May 1847, Mayfair, Middlesex, London, died 1 May 1929, Epsom, Surrey. Earl of Rosebery is a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1703 for Archibald Primrose, 1st Viscount of Rosebery, with remainder to his issue male and female successively. He was the fourth son of Sir Archibald Primrose, 1st Baronet, a Lord of Session under the title Lord Carrington (whose eldest son William was the father of James Primrose, who was created Viscount of Primrose in 1703). Primrose had already been created Lord Primrose and Dalmeny and Viscount of Rosebery/ Wikipedia.

1893 Francis DeSales Ouimet (May 8, 1893 – September 2, 1967) was an American golfer, who is frequently referred to as the “father of amateur golf” in the United States. He won the 1913 U.S. Open, and was the first American elected Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Wikipedia. Golf was popular in Scotland before the year 1490.

1988 Francis Ouimet began his golf career as a caddie and became captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews, Scotland.
