1149 Prince Henry Plantagenet, (Henry 2nd) receives knighthood at Carlisle, with promise of Carlisle should he succeed to the throne. Also known as Henry Curtmantle or Court-manteau, Henry FitzEmpress or Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitaine, Count of Nantes, King of England (1154–89) and Lord of Ireland. 1488- Princess Mary Stewart of Scotland, died, daughter of James II of Scotland, and widow of Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran. Married  James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton.

1504- James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran (1475–1529), appointed Lieutenant General of Scotland and in May 1504 commanded a naval expedition to suppress an uprising in the Western Isles. Arran married firstly in 1490 Elizabeth Home by whom he had two daughters; Arran divorced Elizabeth in 1504. Arran married secondly in 1516, Janet Bethune, daughter of Sir David Bethune, 1st of Creich and Janet Duddlingston. by whom Arran had three children including his heir, James Hamilton, Duke of Châtellerault, 2nd Earl of Arran (c.1516- 22 January 1575), heir presumptive to the Kingdom of Scotland (2 July 1536 – 22 May 1540), (April 1541- 8 December 1542), (14 December 1542 – 19 June 1566), (29 July 1567 – 22 January 1575); Regent of Scotland (1542–1554)) . 1567 Sometime in May. Mary Stuart marries Lord Bothwell – 1567.  Lord Darnley is murdered and Mary is deposed,

1650 Scottish Parliament named a committee for enquiry into the depositions of no less than fifty-four witches, with power to grant such commissions, to proceed with their trial, condemnation, and execution. Supposing these dreaded sorceresses to exist in such numbers, and to possess the powers of injury imputed to [TG47-142, Tales of a Grandfather, Chap. 47, p. 142] them, it was to be expected, as Reginald Scot expresses himself, that “there would neither be butter in the churn, nor cow in the close, nor corn in the field, nor fair weather without, nor health within doors.”

Under the Scottish Witchcraft Act 1563 both the practice of witchcraft and consulting with witches were capital offences. This Act stayed on Scottish statute books until repealed as a result of a House of Lords amendment to the bill for the post-union Witchcraft Act 1735. Wikipedia.

The North Berwick Witches meet the Devil in the local kirk yard, from a contemporary pamphlet, Newes From Scotland. First trials under the 1563 Act. Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Macbeth, contains probably the most famous literary depiction of Scottish witches. Wikipedia. The Scottish tradition of witch hunts was well known to the Puritan and Calvinist colonists in Massachusetts Bay Colony, and Salem, for the Salem witch hunt of a 4 month period from 1692 to 1693.

1787 – Boswell was present at the meeting of the Committee for the Abolition of the Slave Trade in May 1787 set up to persuade William Wilberforce to lead the abolition movement in Parliament. The member of parliament from Liverpool in Lancashire in opposition will soon be Banastre Tarleton, returned from the North American station and paroled from Cornwallis army.

1872 – Reconstruction: U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant (Grant clan) signs the  Amnesty Act of 1872 into law restoring full civil rights to all but about 500 Confederate sympathizers. Wikipedia. Grant

1915 – Three trains collide in the Quintinshill rail crash near Gretna Green, Scotland, killing 227 people and injuring 246; the accident is found to be the result of non-standard operating practices during a shift change at a busy junction. 1939 sometime in May to November. Joseph Fielding Smith, later 10th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Descended from Mack of Inverness (clan Mack), Scotland and Malcolm King of Scots. Fills a special assignment in Europe with wife Jessie, visiting England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Germany. Smith’s 2nd great grandfather was a minute man in the War of Independence.

2006 63 USA Bryce Canyon, Utah. How are the Scots in Utah doing? Utah has the Lowest Cancer death rate in the nation. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death. More than 1.6 million new cancer cases and 585,000 cancer deaths occur annually. Lung, prostate, breast, and colorectal cancers contribute substantially to cancer mortality. Quitting smoking at any age lowers the risk of developing lung cancer. However, lung cancer does not only develop in those who smoke; an estimated 7,300 people die from lung cancer caused by secondhand smoke annually. Deaths from breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer may be avoided through screening programs that detect cancer in early stages while it is most susceptible to treatment. The direct medical cost of cancer was $88.7 billion in 2011.
