June 5 754 Saint Boniface (Wynfrith) of Crediton, Bishop, Apostle of Germany, Martyr. Scots honored these Masses and Saints until the 16th century.

1568 Lamoral, 4th Count of Egmont, Prince of Gavere (November 18, 1522 – June 5, 1568) was a general and statesman in Flanders just before the start of the Eighty Years’ War, whose execution helped spark the national uprising against Spain, that led to free Netherlands. Paternally, a branch of the Egmonts ruled the sovereign duchy of Guelders until 1538. Lamoral was born in La Hamaide near Ellezelles. His father was John IV of Egmont, knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Lamoral 4th Count of Egmont (1522-1568). John II, Lord of Egmond (1385-1451) had 2 sons, the first son was Arnold of Egmond and Duke of Guelders (1410-1473) was father to Mary of Guelders (c. 1431–1463), married 3 July 1449 to James II Stewart, King of Scots. She is ancestress to all Scots royal line since, and the English since 1603.

John II’s Second son was William IV, Count of Egmond (1412-1483) who had John III first Count of Egmont (1438-1516) (1st Cousin to Mary of Guelders, Queen of Scots), John III had a son, John IV Second Count of Egmont (1499–1528) (2nd Cousin to James 3rd King of Scots) John IV’s son was Lamoraal (1522–1568), fourth Count of Egmont, making him 3rd cousin to James 4th King of Scots.

John III 1st Count of Egmont’s daughter Walburga of Egmont (1490–1529), first wife of William I, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg, father of William of Orange (William I, Prince of Orange (24 April 1533 – 10 July 1584), also widely known as William the Silent), great grand father of William III, Prince of Orange and King of England and Ireland (1650-1702), who also reigned styled as William and Mary in England and William 2nd in Scotland (the 1st William being William the Lion). William and Mary College in Williamsburg Virginia is named after this couple.

1686 Andrew Millar IV (uncle and brother of Robert 1st) died in January. His will is in the Glasgow Testaments under date of 5 June 1686. Minister of Neiston. Husband to Margaretta Montgomerie. Brother of Robert Millar Minister of Ochiltree. Andrew Millar, born about 1630, son of Andrew M., min. of Girvan ; educated at Irvine School and Univ. of Glasgow; M.A. (1650); adm. to Dailly about 1660; deprived by Act of Parliament 11th June, and Decreet of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662; still mentioned as min. 17th Dec. 1663. He was fined 2000 merks for baptizing the child of a neighbouring min. On 3rd Sept. 1672, he was adm. here as an “indulged” min. The Privy Council cancelled his indulgence 6th Oct. 1684, because he did not read the Proclamation regarding the deliverance of the King and the Duke of York from the Rye House plot; he was imprisoned in the Edinburgh Tolbooth and in Blackness Castle for refusing to bind himself not to preach, but was liberated on 12th March 1685. He died January 1686. He married Margaretta (alive 7th March 1693), daughter of John Montgomerie of Cockelbie, and had issue — Katherine (married 1696, Robert Graham of Kirkhill) ; Andrew, died young ; Robert, minister of Paisley ; Margaret (married Aird of Milton).”

1719 War of the Quadruple Alliance. On 5 June, British government forces composed of both English and Scottish soldiers under General Joseph Wightman came from Inverness to block their march. They consisted of 850 infantry, 120 dragoons and 4 mortar batteries. 1854 In June of 1854, William A. McMaster wrote, “Sister [Isabella] Bar from Glasgow Scotland died of cholera about 8 o’clock a.m. She was very useful when she was well among the sick when on sea and on this river. . . . [She] was buried about 3 o’clock in the morning under the light of the moon on the bank of the river and another sister was also buried the same day.”

1899 Oxford graduation. Professor Henry Walton Jones, Sr. (fictionally born December 12, 1872 died 1951) is a fictional Scottish professor of medieval literature. Senior received his fictional degree from the University of Oxford on June 5, 1899.

According to his fictional son, Junior, Senior is “the one the students hope they don’t get”. His son’s Dean’s office is on occasion, the dining hall for the Yale Law School in New Haven, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).

1944 the south coast of England also saw the construction and assembly of the ‘Mulberry’ harbour project of two artificial harbours and five ‘Gooseberry’ breakwaters including 400 ‘Mulberry’ units totalling 1.5 million tons and including: (1) up to 6,000-ton ‘Phoenix’ concrete breakwaters; (2) 160 tugs for towing; and (3) 59 old merchantmen and warships to be sunk as blockships for the ‘Gooseberries’. The Isle of Wight was the terminal for the PLUTO project; specially equipped vessels which laid a Pipeline Under The Ocean to carry petroleum fuel across the English Channel to France. There was in fact more than one pipeline. The assault forces sailed from their ports of departure on the 5th to a position off the Isle of Wight, and then headed south through swept channels down ‘The Spout’ towards Normandy to land on the 6th. Fictional Nestor Patout dresses as the fictional Lord X, from Oxford and ‘Cold Cream Guards.’ You have to listen fast to catch the joke, but it is funny.  Shirley MacLean Beaty (born April 24, 1934, Richmond Virginia, later Arlington Thomas Jefferson Junior High School) Her maternal ancestors (Maclean) were from Nova Scotia, New Scotland. The clan Maclean ancestral home is the Duant Castle on the Isle of Mull, Scotland.

1994 Jun 5 Howard W. Hunter (clan Hunter) became 14th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Daughter in law, Nan Greene Hunter 1938 wrote ‘Father This Hour Has Been One of Joy 154.’ Born Nan Greene in Salt Lake City, Utah, she married Richard Allen Hunter in the Salt Lake Temple on December 8, 1961. Richard was a son of Howard W. Hunter who would later serve as president of the Church.
