1694 – Charles Gerard, 1st Earl of Macclesfield, English general (b. c.1618) died. The eldest son of Sir Charles Gerard, he was a member of an auld Lancashire family, his great-grandfather having been Sir Gilbert Gerard (died 1593) of Ince, in that county, one of the most distinguished judges in the reign of Elizabeth I. His mother was Penelope Fitton of Gawsworth Hall, Cheshire.

1746 George Keith Elphinstone, 1st Viscount Keith (7 January 1746 – 10 March 1823) was a British admiral active throughout the Napoleonic Wars. 1840 Samuel Mulliner, who had learned the trade of shoemaking in Dunbar, Journeyed to Edinburgh, where Mulliner’s parents lived. Wright continued on to the north to spend time with his relatives. Mulliner remained in the area of Edinburgh until 7 January 1840, when he launched his plan to systematically proselytize from one end of the country to the other. He began his missionary labors in Bishopton, six miles west of Paisley. In this area he taught Alexander and Jessie Hay, whom he baptized in the icy water of the River Clyde a week later.
