1689 Convention Parliament meeting in London to discuss the status of the throne since James 2nd fled to France..  The Commons agreed on the term abdicated and that the throne was vacant but the Lords rejected abdicated as the term was unknown in common law and indicated that if the throne was vacant it should automatically pass to the next in line, which was implied to be Mary. However, on the 6 February the Lords capitulated, primarily since it became apparent that neither Mary nor Anne (both daughters of James 2nd)  would agree to rule in place of William 3rd  (Mary’s husband and cousin) (William 3rd in the English line after William the Conqueror and William Rufus, but William 2nd in the Scots line after William the Lion). As a compromise the Lords proposed that William and Mary should both take the throne which the Commons agreed with the proviso that William alone, would hold regal power.

1751 did not occur in England, Ireland, British North America, and British colonies, as 1751 only had 282 days due to the Calendar Act of 1750. But 1751 did occur in Scotland, as 1751 had 365 days. Greek astronomers had known, at least since Hipparchus, a century before the Julian reform, that the tropical year was a few minutes shorter than 365.25 days, the calendar did not compensate for this difference. As a result, the Julian calendar year gained about three days every four centuries compared to observed equinox times and the seasons.
