1437 sometime this year. Sandside Chase Clan Mackay launched a raid from Strathnaver against Clan Gunn. Neil Wasse MacKay, son of Angus Dow MacKay, chief of Clan MacKay had been imprisoned in the Bass Rock by King James I of Scotland in 1427 for his part in the Battle of Harpsdale, which took place in 1426.

1438 sometime this year. Battle of Tannach fought between men of the Clan Keith and Clan MacKay from Strathnaver against men of the Clan Gunn and possibly their allies the Clan Oliphant and Clan Sutherland from Caithness. The date is uncertain, it was probably in 1464 but may have been in 1438.

1729 Anne Fairfax Washington Lee. Anne Fairfax, married Lawrence Washington, George Washington’s half-brother, Anne was daughter of George William Fairfax (February 26, 1729 – April 3, 1787), the son of Sarah (née Walker), a woman of mixed race from the Bahamas, and Colonel Sir William Fairfax, William Fairfax (1691–1757) was the son of Henry Fairfax (d. 1708), a grandson of Henry Fairfax, 4th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, and first cousin of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. Henry Fairfax, 4th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (30 December 1631 – 13 April 1688) was the grandson of Thomas Fairfax, 1st Lord Fairfax of Cameron. His father was the Honourable Henry Fairfax, of York, and his mother was Lady Mary Cholmondeley.(1593-1649). Thomas Fairfax, 1st Lord Fairfax of Cameron (1560 – 2 May 1640) was an English soldier, diplomat and politician, his title being in the Peerage of Scotland. Before and after the death of Mary, Queen of Scots, he was employed by Elizabeth on several diplomatic communications with James VI of Scotland. James offered him a title, which he declined. In 1586 he offered his services to James to suppress a rebellion under Lord Maxwell; and on the death of Elizabeth he was, with six of his nearest kindred, one of the first Englishmen who went to Scotland to swear fealty to the new king. On the accession of Charles I, Fairfax was again knight of the shire (MP) for Yorkshire in the parliament of 1625. 1751 did not occur in England, Ireland, British North America, and British colonies, as 1751 only had 282 days due to the Calendar Act of 1750. But 1751 did occur in Scotland, as 1751 had 365 days. The world’s oldest lunar “calendar” is in an Aberdeenshire field. The pit alignment also aligns on the Midwinter sunrise to provided the ancients with an annual “astronomic correction” in order to better follow the passage of time and changing seasons.

1813 Robert Livingston (1746-1813), died. A Founding Father of the United States was a member of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence, although he was recalled by his state before he could sign the final version of the document. (clan Livingstone)

The five prominent figures depicted are, from left to right, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Livingston, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. Robert was United States Minister to France from 1801 to 1804, signing the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. 1st Chancellor of New York. 1st United States Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

Both Robert Livingston and Jonathan Allen Choate are descendants of Sir Alexander Livingston in the Court of James 2nd. Grant Bever is a descendent of Robert the Chancellor.

1901 Carnegie signs the letter to sell his steel and other enterprises to John Pierpont Morgan’s United States Steel corporation for $225,639,000 which was paid to Carnegie in the form of 5%, 50-year gold bonds. Carnegie, age 66, was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.

1935 – Robert Watson-Watt (1892-1973) carries out a demonstration near Daventry which leads directly to the development of RADAR in the United Kingdom.

 Wilkin’s sketch of the Daventry Experiment.   Born in Brechin, Angus, Scotland, Watson-Watt was a descendant of James Watt, the famous engineer and inventor of the practical steam engine. After attending Damacre Primary School and Brechin High School, he was accepted to University College, Dundee (which was then part of the University of St Andrews but became the University of Dundee in 1967). Watt had a successful time as a student, winning the Carnelley Prize for Chemistry and a class medal for Ordinary Natural Philosophy in 1910.
