1138 Battle of the Standard. Robert de Brus, 1st Lord of Annandale, allegiances were compromised when David I invaded England. The Scottish forces were led by King David I of Scotland. The English were commanded by William of Aumale. Wikipedia gives the date as 22 August 1138.

1282 Devorgilla, Countess of Galloway founded Balliol College, Oxford was mother of John Balliol (who acceded to the Scottish throne in 1292).

1292 – 96: John Balliol. Following the death of Margaret in 1290, 13 ‘competitors’, or claimants eventually emerged to be King of the Scots,. 1358 Isabella of France (c. 1295 – 1358), was the daughter of Philip IV of France and Joan I of Navarre, queen consort of Edward II of England and mother of Edward III of England. A near-contemporary miniature showing the future Edward III giving homage to Charles IV under the  guidance of Edward’s mother, and Charles’ sister, Isabella, in 1325.

1485 Battle of Bosworth Field. Last battle of the Wars of the Roses, the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. Thomas Stanley, 2nd Baron Stanley and Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond and Duke of Lancaster, defeat Richard III of York, King of England. Wikipedia. Henry became ancestor of Scots royal line by 1513, and continued as ancestor of all English royal lines from 1485 to 21st century, and eventually German, Greek, Belgian, Danish, Austrian, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, Romanian, Mexico, Portugal and Bulgarian royal lines.

1543 Siege of Nice. was part of the Italian War of 1542–46 in which Francis I and Suleiman the Magnificent collaborated in a Franco-Ottoman alliance against the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and Henry VIII of England. At that time, Nice was under the control of the Charles III, Duke of Savoy, an ally of Charles V. This is part of the 1543-1544 Mediterranean campaign of Barbarossa. Wikipedia.

1582 James VI (age 7) abducted and taken to the Castle of Ruthven by the Earls of Mar and Gowrie – “Ruthven Raid”. All cousins. Escapes June 27, 1583.

  1. Royal foundation gift to St Andrews University Library. The roots of the present University Library at St Andrews can be traced to foundation gifts in 1611-12. Donors including King James VI and I and members of his family who presented over 200 volumes to the Common Library. These volumes now form part of the Royal Collection held within the Special Collections Department of the Library. This is an amalgamation of two gifts from the Royal House of Stewart: firstly, a gift in about 1560 from James Stewart (c. 1521-1570), Earl of Moray, Regent of Scotland, and Commendator Prior of St Andrews, to St Leonard’s College, where he had been a student in 1545; secondly the ‘Foundation gift’ of James VI and I and his family.

The original listing of the collection, along with rentals, inventories of silver and copy acts of parliament relating to the University, are held among the records of St Leonard’s College.

1847 Under President Brigham Young, a small choir was formed which first sang at a conference of the Church on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first pioneers arrived In the Valley of the Great Salt Lake, Utah Territory.

The ‘Mormon’ Temple in St. George Utah was the 3rd Temple erected by the L.D.S. Church but the first one built in Utah. It was finished and dedicated January 1, 1877, having taken six years to build. Its cost was about $800,000.

Wilford Woodruff was baptized for all of them. While I and Brothers J.D.T. McAllister and David H Cannon (who were witnesses to the request) were endowed for them. These men.. ..laid the foundation of this American Gov., and signed the Declaration of Independence and were the best spirits the God of Heaven could find on the face of the earth to perform this work. Martin Luther and John Wesley helped to release the people from religious bondage that held them during the dark ages. Calhoun College 2011. In 1933, with the institution of the new residential college system at Yale, the dormitory at the corner of College and Elm Streets became Calhoun College, named for John Caldwell Calhoun of South Carolina, B. A. 1804, alumnus, statesman, and orator. Calhoun’s statue stands in Yale’s Harkness Tower. Wikipedia.  About 2016, Yale dropped the name.
