Sir Patrick Hamilton (died 1520) was a Scottish nobleman. Patrick was a ‘natural’ son of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton, and a younger half brother of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran. [Hamilton 2Stewart 2Millar 2simmons 2Choate 2Sorensen] Sir Patrick was also nephew of King James IV of Scotland, and 1st cousin to James 5th . In 1520, as a result of rivalry between the Hamiltons and the ‘Black’ Douglases, Sir Patrick helped instigate the street brawl in Edinburgh known as ‘Cleanse the Causeway’. The fight turned out badly for the Hamiltons, and Sir Patrick and about 70 others were killed. His heir was his oldest son, Sir James Hamilton of Kincavil. A younger son, Master Patrick Hamilton went on to become one of the first preachers and Protestants in Scotland, and in 1528 a martyr of the Scottish Reformation. The Hamilton party obliged to disperse. Arran himself and his son, Sir James Hamilton, fighting their way through the melee, retired down a wynd on the north side of the High Street, where, finding a coal-horse standing, they threw off his burden, and rode through the North Loch, at a shallow place, no one thinking of pursuing them that way. Among those slain were Sir Patrick Hamilton of Kincavel, already mentioned, and Sir James Hamilton, younger of Preston.

Ochil Hills are a range of hills in Scotland north of the Forth valley bordered by the towns of Stirling, Alloa, Kinross and Perth. Roads crossing the hills pass through Glen Devon/Glen Eagles and Glenfarg, and by the M90 Edinburgh-Perth motorway cutting through the eastern foothills. The hills are part of a Devonian lava extrusion whose appearance today is largely due to the Ochil Fault which results in the southern face of the hills forming an escarpment. Found on an island, this waterfront castle near the village of Dornie was established way back in the early 1200s. it was mostly demolished during a Jacobite uprising in 1719. After lingering in a state of ruin for approximately 200 years, Colonel MacRae came to the rescue with a plan for restoration plan.
