April 26 – 1286 Alexander III of Scotland died.

1315 Ayr. Estates of Scotland in parliament. Act of settlement for succession of the crown. King Robert Bruce’s only child was Marjory. In the event of King Robert’s death without male issue, Robert’s brother Edward would become King, and if Edward and his heirs male failed, the crown should pass to Marjory and her descendants. [Which telling the ending at the beginning, is what eventually happened.] Princess Marjory married Walter, hereditary High Steward of Scotland, and Marjory and Walter became ancestors of all Scottish royalty ever since, and English since James 6th of Scots and 1st of England (in 1603). 1421 Sir John Stewart, Lord of Lorn (died 26 Apr 1421, a male direct line descendant of Alexander Stewart, 4th High Steward of Scotland) and Isabel De Ergadia (d.21 Dec 1439), a descendant of Robert I (the Bruce) of Scotland and Elizabeth De Burgh.

1467 – Princess Mary Stewart of Scotland, age 13, daughter of James II of Scotland, married to Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran.

1476 Princess Mary Stewart of Scotland, daughter of James II of Scotland, and widow of Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton (c. 1415–1479), received a papal dispensation on 26 April 1476 thus legitimising the two children already born to James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton (c. 1415–1479),

eleven and set about sunrise. The Prince was accompanied by O’Sullivan, O’Neil, Allan MacDonald, Donald MacLeod, and Edward Burke, and by seven boatmen (I. 163). Alexander MacDonald gives this date as the 24th (I. 322), Walkinshaw and Burton give the 28th (I. 69), while O’Neil gives a confused account (I. 369) that is manifestly inaccurate. Donald MacLeod’s dates are here followed; he was an actor in the drama, and a man of great intelligence (I. 271). 1765 Emma Hamilton born Amy Lyon in Ness near Neston, Cheshire, England. Marriage to Sir William Hamilton, British Envoy to Naples, and Emma was best remembered as the mistress of Lord Nelson and as the model and muse of George Romney. Emma Hamilton as a young woman about 1782 by George Romney in the 1780s. (Both Hamilton and Lyon are Scots.)

1716 Ship “Two Brother” with Capt Edward RATHBON, bound for Jamaica from Liverpool 26 April 1716 with 47 prisoners. Duncan, Alexander, Duncan, John. Among the persons transported to the American colonies in 1716 were 637 Scots captured at Preston, Lancashire, on 14 Nov 1715. The rebels were supporters of the exiled James II of England and his heirs.

1785 John James Audubon (Jean-Jacques Audubon) (April 26, 1785 – January 27, 1851) was a French-American ornithologist and painter. His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827–1839), was published in parts between 1827 and 1838 by a Scottish publisher. The text, Ornithological Biography, came out in five volumes between 1831 and 1839. Scottish naturalist William MacGillivray collaborated with Audubon on the text and provided much of the scientific data. 1865 The surrender of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston to Union General William Sherman on April 26, 1865. Joseph Eggleston Johnston (February 3, 1807 – March 21, 1891) was a career U.S. Army officer, and Confederate States general. His grandfather, Peter Johnston, emigrated to Virginia from Scotland in 1726. Joseph was the seventh son of Judge Peter Johnston (1763-1831) and Mary Valentine Wood (1769-1825), a niece of Patrick Henry. Confederate Memorial Day, also known as Confederate Decoration Day (Tennessee) and Confederate Heroes Day (Texas), is an official holiday and/or observance day in parts of the U.S. South as a day to honor those who died fighting for the Confederate States of America.

1937 February 18 issue. “Gens. Sherman, Grant & Sheridan” William Tecumseh Sherman was an 1840 West Point graduate who served as various posts in the South until the beginning of the Mexican War. After California became a state, he left the army to manage a bank in San Francisco, which failed in 1857. He then practiced law and later was superintendent of a military school in Louisiana. In May 1861 he was appointed colonel of the 13th infantry and led a brigade at the first Battle of Bull Run. He then joined Grant at Shiloh and Corinth. After his victory at Vicksburg, he was placed in command of the Army of Tennessee and then commander of the Division of the Mississippi in 1864. In July of that year he forced Gen. Johnson back to Atlanta and set out on his march to the sea. Following duty restraining Indians in Mississippi and a mission to Mexico, he was given command of the entire army by President Grant. usstampgallery.com

Married to Donald John Trump (clans MacLeod, McSwane, Smith) Mrs. Trump was Honorary Chairwoman for Martha Graham Dance Company in April 2005, member of the Police Athletic League (Woman of The Year 2006), Honorary Chairwoman for The Boy’s Club of New York (five consecutive years), and in 2005 The American Red Cross Goodwill Ambassador (four years).
