April 22 – 1486 Stafford and Lovell Rebellion of 1486, collapsed without fighting when Lord Lovell decided not to risk open rebellion and fled to Burgundy; whilst the Stafford brothers had risen in rebellion in Worcester despite the fact that King Henry VII of England had mass support in that area.

1707 Henry Fielding born (Sharpham, 22 April 1707 – near Lisbon, 8 October 1754) Tom Thumb (1730) and Covent Garden Tragedy (1732), Joseph Andrews (1742), took more specific aim at Walpole. Walpole’s Letters recount Andrew Millar VI, London Bookseller. Millar’s long and highly profitable relationship with Henry Fielding: in 1742 Millar paid Fielding L183-l1-0 for Joseph Andrews in 1749, L600 for Tom Jones, plus another L100 on its success; and in 1751, L1000 for Amelia, of which a second edition was ordered on the day of printing the first. 65 YYMA (Millar was descended from clans Stewart, Lockhart, Hunter) Andrew Millar 6th bookseller by the Strand.

1746 April 22- 25 Remained in the neighborhood of Borradale while Donald MacLeod procured a boat and a crew (I. 163) From Borradale the Prince wrote a formal farewell letter to the chiefs I (I. J03, 368). I This letter, preserved in the Stuart Papers at Windsor, is printed in the text of Browne’s History (B.H. III. 263). It was left with John Hay to be sent to Sheridan for delivery, but I have not been able to find any evidence that it ever reached those to whom it was addressed. In the letter he advises the chiefs to defend themselves till the French assisted them, and to take any measures they considered best. He himself would go to France, either to obtain active assistance, or at least to procure through the French court better terms for his followers. His return to France would thwart the traditional French policy, which was not to restore James, but to keep up a continual civil war in Britain. He finally requests them to conceal his departure as long as possible.

Home states (H.H. 241) that Lord George Murray sent a message by Hay of Restalrig to the Prince at Borradale, imploring him not to leave Scotland.

  • Considering the terms that they were on, and the bitter complaints Lord George had made of Hay on the 17th (see p. So, jost), the story is not probable. Murray of Broughton states that such a message from Lochiel and himself was sent by Dr. Cameron, who found Hay in charge, and that Hay denied him access to the Prince, so Cameron was obliged to return without delivering his message.
