The Statute of Praemunire was passed by the Parliament of England during the reign of Richard II, who purchased various loans from foreign creditors and rulers as well as bulls from Rome in 1392. It was only one of numerous stringent measures passed for the purpose of restraining the Holy See and all forms of papal authority in England and of eliminating in general the influence of foreign powers especially creditors and the Holy Roman Emperor. Incorporated into The Act of Uniformity, the Test Acts and Penal Laws of England, Ireland and Scotland were, according to Edmund Burke “a machine of wise and elaborate contrivance, as well fitted for the oppression, impoverishment and degradation of a people, and the debasement in them of human nature itself, as ever proceeded from the perverted ingenuity of man.” Savage, John (1869). Bans on Catholics, Dissenters from the Established Church Presbyterians, Ban on converting from Protestantism to Roman Catholicism on pain of Praemunire: repealed circa 1829.

1560 Bombardment began on Easter Day, 14 April. Meanwhile, an army of around 6,000 English soldiers, under Lord Grey de Wilton marched from Berwick, arriving in the area in early April, when they joined up with the Scottish Lords. [Argyll, Arran, Atholl, Balnaves, Boyd, Campbell, Douglas, Drummond, Erskine, Gordon, Kirkcaldy, Lindsay, Mar, Morton, Moray, Murray, Ochiltree, Ogilvy, Rothes, Ruthven, Stewart, Willock, Wishart, and Minister Knox) Just before the English army arrived, the French raided Glasgow and Linlithgow. Attempts were made to negotiate, via the Berwick Pursuivant, but skirmishing between the two armies soon broke out. The English began constructing siege works in mid-April, constructing a gun emplacement, “Mount Pelham”, to the south-east of Leith.

Kirkaldy Scotland to Knysna South Africa. Circa 1888 Cuthbert’s Store This store was established on land owned by William Macintosh who came to Knysna in August 1849 from Kirkcaldy in Scotland. His daughter, Jessie Amelia, ran this shop after the death of her first husband Thomas Armstrong, a forester, in 1888. She married William Patrick Cuthbert, on 4 October 1892, who had come to the Knysna District in 1880, first settling at Kruis Valley. The shop become known as Cuthbert’s Store and was renowned for high quality drapery, groceries and hardware. William Cuthbert, who died in 1917, was a member of the Municipal Council. Jessie continued to run the store until 1922, after which it was run by John Terblanche for his own account.

1775 Boston Massachusetts. Red Coats. All leave is cancelled, and English soldiers are put on alert. However, they can’’t leave Boston anyway, because the suburbs are controlled by the patriots and minute men. Gun control by the English, who have secret plans to disarm the colonials, by confiscating the Colonials personal pistols and muskets. It is not about crime, but power. Across the ocean from Scotland, hundreds of thousands of Scots and their descendants are scattered 2,000 miles up and down the Atlantic coast of the colonies, many having been forced by the Highland Clearances after the ’45 (1745 Jacobite uprising).The English military watch the colonial arms, particularly those at Lexington and Concord. Gun control will cause the spark for the American Revolution.

1860 Salt Lake City. when the family of Charles W. Nibley arrived in the city of the Saints in 1860, he wrote,” We camped in the city. . . . My parents had known and ministered to many of the traveling Elders in the auld country, some of them like Robert L. 1899 April 14. David O. McKay left Stirling in May 1898 for Glasgow. He visited Stirling again less than a year later, on April 14, 1899, with Elder John T. Edward. [David McKay from Caithness Scotland reared a son, David O. McKay who became president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ . ] In a sermon about the priesthood in 1954, McKay began by quoting, “What e’er thou art, act well thy part,” then continued: “Are ye a deacon, do the duties of a deacon well. Are ye a teacher, do your work well. . . . Brethren, there is nothing in the world so powerful in guiding youth as to have them act well their parts in the priesthood.”42**He then talked about how these duties contribute to the success of a larger whole—the priesthood. “Remember this as a guideline in whatever position ye are called to serve,” McKay taught in a 1969 general conference, “‘What e’er thou art, act well thy part.’” Journal [The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] History 33_3_2007 {matt_richardson@byu.edu}

On April 8, 1954, David O. McKay, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Senior Apostle, ordained George Q. Morris, Apostle. On 1 May 1960, Apostle Morris ordained Walter McCoey Bowers, an High Priest at the organization of the Tulsa Oklahoma Stake. On 2 May 1987, Stake 1st Counselor Bowers ordained John Choate a High Priest after the Order of Melchizedek, in the Tulsa Oklahoma Stake.
