Better gas mileage from newer cars means less revenue for state highways and roads. . . “I don’t think it’s something that’s ripe for full implementation,” Sen. Wayne Harper, R-Taylorsville and co-chairman of the task force, said after hearing the reports about mileage taxes. “But it’s something we need to keep on the table…. I think we need to go into a demonstration and pilot program,” as UDOT is proposing.”
