President Barack Obama and his family will reportedly move into a mammoth mansion in an affluent D.C. neighborhood after the First Family exits the White House.
The 8,200-square-foot home is in the District’s northwest neighborhood of Kalorama and sold for $5,295,000 in 2014, reports The Washingtonian. The eight-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bathroom mansion is just a 10 minute drive from Sidwell Friends School, Sasha Obama’s school.
The Obama’s previously said they wanted to remain in D.C. so their youngest daughter could finish school. Malia Obama will graduate from Sidwell in June and will take a gap year before beginning school at Harvard.
The mansion previously belonged to Joe Lockhart, founder of Glover Park Group and Glamour Magazine’s Washington editor Giovanna Gray Lockhart. Joe Lockhart accepted a job in New York City as executive vice president of communications for the NFL, reports Politico.
The historic property was originally built in 1928 and includes a two garage and courtyard with space for roughly 10 vehicles. It will be a rare move in presidential history, as former Commander-in-Chiefs normally choosing to return to their home state.
