1382 Sir John Lyon died. 1376 Castle of Glamis, Angus, granted by King Robert II to Sir John Lyon, Thane of Glamis, husband of the king’s daughter. Glamis was the site of Malcolm 2nd murder in 1034. In William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth (1603–06), the eponymous character resided at Glamis Castle, although the historical King Macbeth (d. 1057) had no connection to the castle (of record). Scotland wasn’t all that big, so Macbeth could have visited the site. It could have happened. An eponym is a person, place or thing for which something else is named. So the character Glamis, gave his name to the Glamis castle.
