January 15 1342 Philip the Bold born as Philip II Duke of Burgundy (January 15, 1342, Pontoise – April 27, 1404, Halle), was the fourth and youngest son of King John II of France and his wife, Bonne of Luxembourg. By his marriage to Margaret III, Countess of Flanders, he also became Count Philip II of Flanders, Count Philip IV of Artois and Count-Palatine Philip IV of Burgundy. He was the founder of the Burgundian branch of the House of Valois.

Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy 1363-27 apr 1404. Philip gained his cognomen the Bold when, at the age of 14, he fought beside and was captured with his father at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. Philip and Margaret countess of Flanders had, John the Fearless Duke of Burgundy and Margaret of Bavaria had, Marie of Burgundy and Adolph 1st Duke of Cleves had, Catherine of Cleves married Arnold Duke of Guelders, had Mary Queen of Scotland with James 2nd Stewart King of Scots, and ancestors of all Scots royalty from 1460 on and English royalty from 1603.  Wikipedia.

1484 Louis II of Orléans, the cousin of the king (and future Louis XII of France) tried to seize the regency, but was rejected by the States General of Tours (January 15 to March 11, 1484). In April, Louis of Orléans left for Brittany to join its Duke, Francis. He also sent a request to the pope to annul his marriage, so that he would be free to marry Anne of Brittany, Francis’s heir. France was the auld alliance with Scotland.

1561 Parliament reconvened on 15 January 1561 to consider the Book of Discipline. The Kirk was to be run on democratic lines. Each congregation was free to choose or reject their own pastor; but once he was chosen, they could not fire him. Each parish was to be self-supporting, as far as possible. The bishops were replaced by ten to twelve “superintendents”. The plan included a system of national education based on universality as a fundamental principle.

1599 never happened.  I think this is interesting.

In 1747, married Sarah Livingston, the daughter of Philip Livingston (1686-1749) and sister of Governor William Livingston. While there Alexander claimed the vacant title of Earl of Stirling, in the Peerage of Scotland, as senior male descendant of the first earl’s grandfather, and was permitted to vote in an election of the Scottish representative peers.  The British House of Lords declined to recognize the claim.  Also, a long standing law, if one left the country without intention to return, they were legally deceased, and the heirs would assume title. The earldom implied his right to a land grant of the New England coast, parts of Nova Scotia and the entire St. Lawrence River valley, given to the heirs male of the first earl.  He took the nephews of the fifth, and last, Earl (Henry Alexander, 5th  Earl of Stirling) into partnership on the land claim. His nephew was Senator John Rutherfurd (1760–1840).His son-in-law was Congressman William Duer (1747–1799). His grandson was College president William Alexander Duer (1780–1858). His great-grandson was Congressman William Duer (1805–1879).
