Why Didn’t Pelosi Take Down Confederacy-Era Statues As Speaker?

Who we are as nation is a direct result to all of the trials and tribulations, the rights and wrongs that we as a nation have committed in the past, including the War of Independence, the Civil War, slavery, segregation, and even every single congressional election since the inception of the country.

While many see any and all remnants of the Confederacy as being racially insensitive, the fact of the matter is that it’s still part of American history.

After the unfortunate violence that occurred at a white nationalist rally Charlottesville, VA , where one women was killed, Democratic members of congress were quick to call for the removal of all Confederacy-era statues from the US Capitol and from public property around the country.

President Trump has condemned white supremacy and the violence that occurred in Virginia, but takes issue for the removal of history CConfederacy-era statutes.

Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is grandstanding again, calling for current Republican Speaker Paul Ryan to “remove the Confederate statues from the Capitol immediately.”

“The Confederate statues in the halls of Congress have always been reprehensible,…If Republicans are serious about rejecting white supremacy, I call upon Speaker Ryan to join Democrats to remove the Confederate statues from the Capitol immediately.”- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D), NY Times
