Charter school challenges students to write a novel
At the Academy for Software Engineering in New York, students have been challenged to take on National Novel Writing Month, an event that has writers around the world attempt to write a book-length work of fiction in one month.
“I wanted to challenge them,” said Meredith Towne, an English teacher at the Academy. “I wanted to bring them a really rigorous writing experience and give them an opportunity to do something they hadn’t done before.”
The students were grateful for the challenge. “I just feel really great right now,” said student Jose Taveras.
