GEORGE, Utah — Canadian Brass will bring Dixie Forum, a Dixie State University lecture series, to conclusion for the Fall 2016 semester with a special lecture-demonstration highlighting the ensemble’s music and musical lives.

Canadian Brass will present from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the Dixie State campus. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The Dixie Forum presentation is a preview to the ensemble’s full performance, part of DSU’s Celebrity Concert Series, set to take place at 7:30 that same evening in the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the concert are $25 and available at dsutix.com.

In their lecture-demonstration, Canadian Brass will offer a fast-paced overview of their music and anecdotes from life on the road while striking a balance between education and entertainment. After introducing themselves and the various genres of music that comprises their repertoire, the ensemble will move through renaissance, romantic, contemporary classic, classical, jazz and pop within several minutes to show how much music has evolved and how many different types of music there are.

With an international reputation as one of the most popular brass ensembles of today, Canadian Brass is known for putting on performances that are entertaining, spontaneous, full of virtuosity and, most of all, fun. Whatever the style, the music is central and performed with utmost dedication, skill and excellence. The varied Canadian Brass repertoire features brass standards as well as a wide-ranging library of original arrangements.

Dixie Forum is a weekly lecture series designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. Dixie Forum will resume for the Spring 2017 semester in January.
