From Our Publisher

Dear Reader,

Utah Standard News was founded to provide an honest and in-depth representation of current and past events. Our aim is very simple: to educate and assist our readers in becoming fully aware of issues and events at home or across the globe by showcasing what’s really going on in politics, government, media, business, the arts, sports, and other aspects of public life that are worthy of public scrutiny.

Journalism, or the so-called ‘Fourth Estate’, acts as a vital check and balance on the activities of government, the political system and the judiciary, and must be free from undue or corrupting influence or leveraged by bias or agenda. One’s judgment is no better than the information it is based upon. A person may still judge wrongly when presented the truth, but they had the opportunity to be right. If one is given no news or biased, sloppy, distorted or incomplete information, filled with deliberate propaganda and falsehoods, then their whole reasoning process is corrupted or completely destroyed. Essentially, our current media outlets and the news that they report avoids thought vastly more than it rarely enlightens thought. To paraphrase Mark Twain, “If you don’t follow the news, you are uninformed. If you do follow the news, you are misinformed.”

USN is an independent entity, owned and operated by local neighbors with a vested interest in the events occurring around us. We are not part of a media empire. We strive to provide a refreshing alternative to right-wing and left-wing opinion/news sites by presenting a principled source for news and commentary without the omissions, blatant lies, incomplete truths, diversions, politically correct distortions or any other form of deceit where truth is avoided and extreme falsity has become our virtual and simulated artificial reality.

In order to achieve our editorial aspirations, we must also operate as a business with our primary sources of revenue coming from subscriptions and advertising. Some of our stories require hundreds of hours of travel and research. This is not accomplished without great expense. Many media outlets spend much of their revenue in developing social media and generating ‘clicks’ by selectively ‘popularizing’ the news. While these activities have increasingly become part of the modern business model, their importance is secondary to our purpose. Instead, we believe that we can offer a service that our readers will appreciate, rely upon and support through their subscriptions and advertising. We will be open and honest in all our commercial activities and we reserve the right to reject any advertising we regards as unethical or in any other way unsuitable.

We will also be fair and open in our journalism. We do not seek to be malicious or invade an individual’s privacy unless the information is relevant to an individual’s public or corporate duties. We will be Utah’s source for uninfluenced, reliable and fearless news and we will cover stories that mainstream media would not cover. The truth, rather than being a novel thought, is now our reality.

Warmest Regards,
Ed Wallace
