OJ and pancakes with JJ (Jonathan Johnson) in the park.
About 75 people gathered early Saturday morning at Vernon Worthen park in Saint George for orange juice and pancakes with Jonathan Johnson, candidate for governor of Utah. Johnson is in the final days of his primary race against incumbent Gary ‘Available Jones’ Herbert and is polling well throughout the state, especially in Southern Utah. The morning event started a busy day for Johnson as he made his final visit to Saint George before Tuesday’s Primary. He then went on to visit Switchpoint and the Doctor’s Volunteer Clinic.
In attendance was Utah State Representative Ken Ivory from District 47 (West Jordan). Ivory has been one of Johnson’s most visible supporters and said: ” I’m here to support Jonathan Johnson to be our next Governor. Jonathan has both the understanding of the constitutional boundaries, the duty of the governor to impose the boundaries upon the federal government and to execute the laws that the legislature passes. The federal government is out of control by any measure and we don’t have a Governor who understands that it’s the role of the state to act as the parent in the relationship. I know that Johnathan both understands those boundaries and is committed to restoring that balance.”
Ivory continued “Under seven years of Governor Herbert we’ve seen a ‘Disneyland Dad’ that goes along to get along and we’ve seen the expanding federal control over our lives and it’s getting too a very devastating point. If we’re not treated equally as a state then we’re nothing more than a vassal to D.C. We can negotiate what colors our chains of bondage should be, or we can battle to have no chains and stand equally as a sovereign state. It’s time to fight for our state to be treated equally and fairly.”
Also in attendance was Larry Myers, chairman of the Dixie Republican Forum. Larry stated: “Our organization has endorsed Jonathan and we think it’s time for a fresh face in the Governor’s mansion. Jonathan has a great background in business. He’s conservative. He wants to keep taxes low and cut our state’s budget. He supports our Constitutional rights and wants to bring land back to Utah and is in support of Constitutional carry.”
All in all, it was a nice way to start the day. At the conclusion of the event, Jonathan sat down with our publisher for an in-depth and wide-ranging interview that will be published later.
